Creating the fantasy

Stylist Samantha Chauhan creates a fairytale-styled wedding shoot and takes us through her choices

I chose a stunning Grade II Victorian Gothic Mansion in my home town of Rugby, Warwickshire for the venue of our styled shoot. Brownsover Hall Hotel is set in more than seven acres of woodland and landscaped gardens, is licensed for civil ceremonies, and offers the perfect setting for a fabulous wedding.

The theme for the shoot was ‘Fairytale’ so was it styled using colours such as soft pink, peach, gold, and ivory, with dresses that were fitting for the theme. Our model Lindsay wore an Alfred Angelo gown, which featured a hand-draped strapless bodice and softly rounded dropped waistline, hand-beaded flowers, and sequins that accentuated the full skirt.

Sammii wore the ‘Chandler’ dress by Maggie Sottero. This gorgeous dress, nominated for wedding dress of the year, featured an illusion lace neckline and keyhole back, lace bodice and flowing tulle skirt with dainty cap sleeves. To compliment the dresses, Sammii wore ‘Mia’ shoes by Benjamin Adams – T-strap pale ivory silk sandals, decorated with crystal teardrop jewels. Similarly, Lindsay wore ‘Perfume’ by Pink Paradox, which featured a T-bar design with an elegant crystal and pearl brooch embellishment.

Sammii and Lindsay both wore artisan hair accessories and jewellery. Sammii wore a ‘Willow Crown’ with Lindsay wearing a complementary ‘Charlotte’ Floral Muse comb. To add a touch of sparkle, Lindsay also wore a Swarovski crystal bracelet and ‘Eve’ earrings to match.Their beautiful bouquets consisted of Crème de la Crème roses, ruscus, Royal Porcelain Spray roses, astilbe Erika and equisetum (snake grass), which was folded over the bouquet to create a geometric feature. The bouquets were in essence the same, but contrasted subtly by reversing the amount of colour in each. Each bouquet was hand-tied naturally, bound with pale pink chiffon and secured with gold pins.

Venue dressing and accessories were down to Kala, who designed and made the ring, memory boxes and rainbow flag inspired shoe clips featured within the shoot. The shoe clips were a lovely addition and offer an unexpected yet meaningful
touch for those captured memories. The floral decorated lantern, individual cut roses, large rose petals and pale pink scatter crystals all provided a romantic setting for the table. A traditional rose and pearl cascade tiered cake held centre stage in the imposing bay window of the drawing room.

We featured two wedding vehicles, each possessing their own unique qualities. The VW Campervan offered a vehicle with a difference, providing all the practicalities of a wedding car and also containing a photo booth. The authentic vintage suitcases housed a collection of genuine vintage costumes such as top hats, school boaters and army helmets, providing endless fun for everyone. The charming Tudor White Austin 12 Ascot 1934 provided a touch of distinguished elegance.

As no wedding would be complete without confetti, we opted for real flower petals. To tie in with the colour scheme we chose ivory and pale pink delphinium petals and displayed them in pale pink cones and a gorgeous white wicker basket dressed with a gold ribbon bow.
